The creation by Cédric Lecareux and his wife of their Domaine Les Capréoles is the fruit of a long process. Born in Auvergne, he was brought up on Gamay. On the family’s mixed farm, his grandfather had not forgotten to keep a few rows of vines, “for the family’s consumption”, explains Cédric Lecareux, who first headed south to take his agricultural engineering and oenology degrees in Montpellier. It was also in the south that he began his working life, at the Chamber of Agriculture in the Aude department, and then with Gérard Bertrand from 2009 as head of the estates. During all these years, the idea of setting up his own business has been growing, and the Beaujolais region gradually came to the fore for a variety of reasons: his university studies in Lyon enabled him to discover the Beaujolais very early on, his wife’s family origins and a soft spot for this magnificent wine-growing region where the universe of possibilities remains vast. All that remained was to make the right acquaintance, and the one with the former owners of his Régnié vineyards is one of those encounters. “They gave us the responsibility of ensuring that the winegrowing vocation of these lands, which had been in their family for four centuries, continued”, remembers Cédric Lecareux as if it were yesterday.
And since 2014, despite years of hail, heatwaves, joy and despair, Cédric and his wife have done their utmost to bring honour to this land, which has been farmed organically from day one. Since 2018, the vines have also been in the process of converting to biodynamic viticulture. And what about the vinification? “90% of the work is done in the vineyard. The last three years without bad weather have been wonderful, but you have to be careful with the heat. With high ripeness, you have to watch the wines very cautiously,” says Cédric, who adapts his vinification to the vintage, with a tendency to destem more in very ripe years to give the wines more freshness. The wines are matured in equal parts in oak barrels and vats, with two exceptions in the red Beaujolais-Lantignié: 100% vats for Amourgandise and 100% barrels for the new Alio Pacto cuvée launched in 2018.
The estate's first vintage after taking over 3.2 hectares in Régnié. 2014 also marked the start of organic conversion.
Expansion of the estate by 2.6 hectares, a single parcel in the Beaujolais-Lantignié region located at Montmerond-Les Rochers.
First vintage of white Beaujolais-Lantignié, a vineyard planted in 2017.
